Ergonomic Workstation Assessments

Our team of experienced and fully qualified Ergonomists specialise in carrying out Ergonomic Workstation Assessments. These task-specific assessments are designed for individuals working in environments such as production lines, assembly lines, or other hands-on roles where screen interaction is minimal.

Focusing on the unique physical demands of each task, our Ergonomists use observational and objective analysis techniques to assess the employee’s workstation and work area. The goal is to identify risks related to posture, repetitive movements, equipment layout, and workflow.

By providing tailored, practical recommendations, Ergonomic Workstation Assessments help to improve comfort, safety, and productivity. Simultaneously, they reduce the risk of musculoskeletal disorders and support compliance with workplace health and safety regulations.

    Benefits of Ergonomic Workstation Assessments

    1. Reduced Risk of Musculoskeletal Disorders (MSDs)
Identifies poor posture, repetitive strain, and awkward movements. If disregarded, this can lead to back pain, shoulder injuries, and other MSDs common in manual roles.

    2. Improved Comfort During Repetitive Tasks
Adjustments to workstation layout and working techniques can ease physical strain. This is especially prevalent during tasks involving repeated motions or prolonged standing.

    3. Enhanced Productivity and Efficiency
By optimising the flow of tasks and workstation design, employees can work more efficiently with fewer unnecessary movements or delays.

    4. Increased Employee Engagement and Job Satisfaction
Workers feel valued when their physical wellbeing is considered, which can lead to higher morale and lower staff turnover in physically demanding roles.

    5. Fewer Sick Days and Lower Absence Rates
Early identification and resolution of ergonomic issues help prevent work-related injuries and reduce long-term absence.

    6. Task-Specific, Practical Recommendations
Observational analysis ensures that improvements are tailored to the exact duties performed, such as lifting, assembly, packaging, or machine operation.

    7. Improved Safety in Manual Work Environments
Assesses risk factors such as awkward reaches, trip hazards, or poorly positioned tools. Therefore, helping reduce the likelihood of workplace accidents.

    8. Compliance with Health and Safety Regulations
Supports employers in meeting their obligations under the Health and Safety at Work Act and other relevant legislation.

    How The Assessment Works:

    Equipment

Some or all of the following equipment may be used during the assessment, depending on the employee’s role:

    • Wearable Sensor Technology
    • iPad
    • Weights
    • Scales
    • Hand-grip
    • Force meter

    Assessment

Our Ergonomic Workstation Assessments focus on task-specific roles with minimal screen use, such as production or assembly line work. Taking around half a day to complete, the assessment involves a detailed evaluation of the employee’s workstation and job tasks using observational and, where appropriate, objective techniques. This helps us identify ergonomic risks related to posture, movement, and task setup. The assessment supports improvements in comfort, safety, and productivity by highlighting practical adjustments tailored to the specific demands of the role.

    Report Writing

Following the assessment, our ergonomist produces a comprehensive report, which also takes around half a day to complete. The report outlines the key findings from the assessment, including identified risks and contributing factors. It provides clear, task-specific recommendations to improve the employee’s comfort, safety, and efficiency. All suggestions are practical, prioritised, and tailored to the role, ensuring they can be implemented effectively within the work environment. This detailed report supports employers in making informed decisions to enhance workplace ergonomics and reduce the risk of musculoskeletal issues.
