At Acorn Occupational Health, we’ve always believed that healthy employees are the foundation of a productive workplace. Now, thanks to our recent acquisition by Spire Healthcare, we’re expanding the way we support organisations and their people.
We’re excited to announce that our own team now delivers several key services directly, rather than relying on external providers. This means employers can expect faster access, a smoother process, and greater consistency of care across the board.
Our new in-house services include:
- Musculoskeletal (MSK) and Physiotherapy Support
- Professional Counselling
- Employee Assistance Programme (EAP)
Here’s a closer look at what each of these services can offer your workplace.
Helping Employees Stay Active and Well: MSK & Physiotherapy
Musculoskeletal problems such as back pain, neck pain, and joint issues are among the most common causes of sickness absence. Left untreated, they can have a major impact on both employee wellbeing and business productivity.
Our expanded MSK and physiotherapy services are designed to tackle these challenges head-on by giving employees quick access to the right treatment and advice. Services include:
- Access to a nationwide network of physiotherapy clinics, quality assured and evidence-based.
- Functional restoration programmes for employees managing long-term or recurring pain.
- Workstation and DSE assessments to reduce risks linked to office-based work.
- On-site occupational physiotherapy, reducing time away from work and supporting faster recovery.
- Ergonomic consultancy, helping organisations design safer working environments.
- Vehicle assessments for employees who spend long hours driving.
The result? Reduced absence, happier employees, and fewer long-term musculoskeletal risks.
Professional Counselling When It’s Needed Most
Work pressures, personal challenges, and unexpected life events can sometimes leave employees struggling to cope. In these situations, having quick access to a qualified counsellor can make all the difference.
Our new in-house counselling service, delivered in partnership with Vita Health Group, ensures employees are supported every step of the way. A clinician reviews each referral to ensure the employee receives the right type of help. From initial triage through to tailored sessions, the process is structured, transparent, and focused on positive outcomes.
This gives employees the reassurance that they’ll receive meaningful support, while employers know that referrals are being carefully and professionally managed.
24/7 Support: The Employee Assistance Programme (EAP)
Not every challenge requires counselling, but timely advice and guidance can still make a huge difference. Our Employee Assistance Programme (EAP) is available day and night, 365 days a year, providing a confidential lifeline for employees and their families (dependents aged 16+ living at the same address).
Support is wide-ranging and includes:
- Everyday issues such as debt management, relationship concerns, legal advice, and stress.
- Access to fully qualified counsellors, either through self-referral or employer referral with consent.
- Up to six counselling sessions a year (where clinically appropriate).
- Digital self-help tools including fact sheets, videos, and wellbeing podcasts.
By making this support available around the clock, employers can show they genuinely care about their people’s wellbeing, while employees gain practical solutions to life’s challenges.
Why This Matters for Employers
By bringing these services in-house, Acorn can now provide a more joined-up approach to occupational health. Instead of navigating multiple providers, employers benefit from:
- A single point of contact for referrals and support.
- Faster access to treatment and advice.
- Trusted, clinically led professionals delivering all services, providing assurance throughout.
- Reduced absence and better long-term wellbeing for employees.
